Eligibility
Students are eligible who:
- have a 3.0 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale
- have an interest in non-profit organizations and grassroots development
- know enough Spanish to attempt conversation with Nicaraguans in their native language (no academic language requirements)
University of Florida Academic Credits
The following Courses are taught during the program by UF Faculty
- IDH 3931: NGOs, Social Movements, and Grassroots Development (3 UF GPA credits)
- IDH 3931: Culture of Nicaragua (3 UF GPA credits)
Program Cost
The 2008 program fee is $3990
Tuition for 6 credits, room and board, several excursions, development and cultural instruction, opportunities for hands-on involvement in grassroots development projects, on-site orientation, and MEDEX emergency assistance.
The fee does NOT include:Round-trip airfare and additional personal expenses.
Financial Aid
University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA). Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions.
Scholarship Deadlines
The deadline for application for Summer scholarships administered by the UF International Center is February 1, 2009. Online applications are available at www.abroad.ufic.ufl.edu and at the International Center in room 170 the Hub.
Fees Due Upon Application
A $250 non-refundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is required at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 30 days prior to departure.
Students receiving financial aid may defer payment until their financial aid disperses.
